Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) (New York City, New York)


6th Avenue – Officially Avenue of the Americas, although this name's seldom used by New Yorkers's – a major thoroughfare in New York City's borough of Manhattan, on which traffic runs northbound, or "Uptown." 6th Avenue's commercial for much of its length.

6th Avenue begins 4 blocks below Canal Street, @ Franklin Street in TriBeCa, where the northbound Church Street divides into 6th Avenue to the left & the local continuation of Church Street to the right, which then ends @ Canal Street. From this beginning, 6th Avenue traverses SoHo & Greenwich Village, roughly divides Chelsea from the Flatiron District & Noorth of Madison Square Park, ("NoMad,") passes through the Garment District & skirts the edge of the Theatre District whilst passing through Midtown Manhattan.

6th Avenue's northern end's @ Central Park South, adjacent to the Artists Gate traffic entrance to Central Park @ Center Drive. Historically, 6th Avenue continued north of Central Park, but that segment t'was renamed "Lenox Avenue," in 1887 & co-named "Malcolm 'X' Boulevard,"
in 1987.
