 office building, skyscraper

580-foot, 40-story modern-International-style office building completed in 1971. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, it has white marble piers separating the north and south facades into five bays, and the east and west facades into six bays. Each bay is clad in a dark-tinted glass curtain wall, with thin metal mullions dividing them into five windows per floor. Originally known as the J.P. Stevens Company tower, a textile firm acquired in 1988 by West Point - Pepperel.

The main entrance is at the middle two bays on the avenue, with two sets of revolving glass doors in each bay, flanked by regular doors, with glass infill and topped by a white metal canopy. The other bays have slightly-recessed, tall storefronts of black metal and glass. There is a loading dock in the westernmost bay on the south facade on 46th Street.

The rear, west-facing wall at the ground floor facing the plaza is clad in black granite. At the 2nd bay from the south, a black metal and glass skybridge at the 2nd floor connects over the plaza to the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. The ground floor is occupied by an ICBC Bank branch.
