Midtown (North Central) (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York
neighborhood, draw only border, town district

Including within it the "Plaza District" this is not a recognised NYC neighborhood as such, but rather a construct as widely used by realtors, tourist businesses, hoteliers and other such businesses to describe a city district not otherwise within a recognised neighborhood.

It runs approx from Bryant Park (@42nd street) in the south to Central Park South(@ 59th. street) in the north, from Eight Avenue (south of Columbus Circle)and 6th Ave. (Avenue of the Americas)south of 51st street in the west (excluding the Times Square/Theatre District - which is a recognised neighborhood of long standing), to Park Ave. or even Lexington Avenue in the east. Some sources have it running a block or so to the east instead (ie. from 3rd. to 6th. Ave). It approximates to roughly the eastern half of the NYPD's 18th. Precinct also colloquially called Midtown North.

Within this district is the larger part of the Rockerfeller Center and the highest density of upmarket shopping and retail outlets along Fifth & Madison Avenues south of the Grand Army Plaza.
