condominium, high-rise, Modern (architecture), 2017 construction
316-foot, 24-story Modernist residential building completed in 2017 for Alchemy Properties and the Carlyle Group. Designed by FXFowle, the grey brick and glass tower rises from a 4-story base, set back on the west, north & east sides. The lower two floors are clad in black metal and glass, except for a small area of grey brick at the south end of the west facade, and brick piers framing the main entrance bay at the east end of the north facade on 30th Street. The entrance has black metal-and-glass double-doors set in a glass-and-metal surround; to the left is a window with thin metal framing elements, and a recessed service entrance with a metal door. A black metal canopy covers this whole bay, angling back toward the east. Above it is a large opening with horizontal panes of opaque green glass; it is five panes wide, and the eastern three sets of panes angle back into the facade. The rest of the lower two floors, with metal and glass infill, has storefront entrances with glass-and-metal double-doors along the ground floor.
The 3rd & 4th floors have long ribbon bands of windows with dark grey metal mullions. Above the main entrance, they are separated into separate window bands at both floors. The base is topped by a glass railing.
The facades of the tower have spandrels of grey brick between floors, and bands of windows recessed between each spandrel, with grey metal mullions. The west half of the north facade runs at a slight angle, with the east half set slightly back and following the same angle, then turning halfway across and continuing aligned with the base to the projecting balconies with glass railings that define the east end. The west facade of the tower is also set at an angle, with the southern third or so projecting forward and eliminating the brick spandrels.
There is a small setback at the top floor and further set-back mechanicals penthouses. The building contains 55 condominium units. The ground floor is occupied by Uno Mode jewelry store, & C&L Collection jeweler.
