 office building, 1912_construction

6-story office building completed in 1912. Designed by Gillespi & Carrel as a store-and-loft building, it is clad in white terra-cotta with a 4-bay facade. The ground floor, filled with modernized storefront, is split into two halves by an engaged column topped by a triglyph, with wide framing piers that are topped by twin triglyphs.

The 2nd-4th floors have tiled terra-cotta, and are organized into a grid of square window openings, each with black iron mullions and framing separating the double-windows and transoms. Five oval shields decorate the top of the 4th floor, which is capped by a band course with a Greek-fret motif. The 5th-6th floor have 2-story fluted columns (center) and piers (outer edges) with Corinthian capitals. The spandrels between the two floors are fluted and decorated with oval shields. The facade is crowned by a white modillioned and dentiled roof cornice with an elaborate frieze. The exposed upper part of the south elevation is clad in plain brick, with a few windows in the center. The ground floor is occupied by Fushimi Market.
