Chelsea Career & Technical High School

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas), 131

5-story school building completed in 1848 and rebuilt in 1858 as an elementary school. In 1932, a full-time vocational high school was established and moved into this building two years later. Between 1938 and 1940, the school was redesigned to house an all male-student population until 1984. Today, the school is more geared to college prep than trades, and since 1984, has been co-ed.

The building's first floor is faced in rusticated stone, with the upper floors clad in rusticated, buff-colored brick. The ground-level windows are set under shallow segmental arches, with two entryways on both Sixth Avenue and Broome Street. The second floor is capped with a decorative band course, and the third floor's central window bays are topped by triangular pediments. At the top floor, the vertical piers are decorated with ornately-carved ornaments. The roof is set back slightly above a dark-brown dentilled cornice.
