castle ruins, archaeological site

The ruins of an ancient Urartian-period citadel overlooking the northeastern shore of Lake Çıldır. The walls extend out from the citadel (most noticeable at the northwest) to enclose the lower city, which was located on the slope leading down to the lake.
As the most impressive Urartian-period site in the area, Sengerkale has been tentatively identified as the town of Maqaltu, mentioned in the Taşköprü inscription.
