archaeological site, Medieval / Middle Ages, open air museum, interesting place

The archaeological site represents a medieval Alan settlement and contains some of the most ancient temples in territory of Russia. The medieval site dates to the 7th-14th centuries, and contains both pre-Christian and Christian religious structures. There are currently three churches (although two of them hold services only once a year), but the site contains the ruins of at least eleven more. It has been proposed that the Nizhnearkhyzskoe gorodishche is to be identified with the Alan capital Maghas.
