apartment building, 1850s construction, Italianate style (architecture)

5-story Italianate residential building completed in 1854. Clad in brownstone, it originally had a high stoop, which has been replaced by a ground-level round-arched entrance. A short window takes the place of the former entrance with narrow wood-and-glass double-doors in a black wooden surround. The two original parlor floor windows are floor length and are unusually tall, indicating extremely high ceilings on the parlor floor. All the windows have segmental arches. Small brackets remain at the window sills of the 2nd and 3rd floors. Above the 4th floor where the roof cornice had been is a wide, plain band of stucco. The 5th floor, sheltered by a slate-covered mansard roof in French Second Empire style, is a later addition to the house. It has two dormer windows with low triangular pediments and keystones.
