 apartment building  Add category

6-story Neo-Grec cooperative-apartment building completed in 1888. Designed by J.A. Wood as stores. The building has a cast-iron facade on Broadway with fluted pilasters and very narrow columns, and grey-painted brick with red-painted cast-iron on Mercer Street. Both facades have bracketed metal roof cornices and fire escapes. The exposed southern wall is clad in beige and brown brick.

In 1910, it was occupied by several small manufacturers - mainly of hats and other clothing; by the 1970s, its occupants had taken on a more industrial character, including manufacturers of screws, fireplace equipment, and belt buckles. The building was converted by Henry George Greene in 1979 to a cooperative-apartment complex that also includes the other eight buildings on the block. The ground floor is occupied by Gamestop and Miz Mooz shoes on Broadway, with Bond Real Estate and Think Coffee shop on Mercer Street.
