apartment building, 1896_construction, Renaissance Revival (architecture)
9-story Renaissance-revival residential building completed in 1896. Designed by Francis A. Minuth as a store-and-loft building, it has a 2-story base featuring banded limestone and granite piers, topped by a bracketed molding with flanking lions' heads, and decorative, cast-iron storefront columns with bracketed caps. The upper facade has tan brick end piers with terra-cotta banding. There is a multi-story, 4-windowed projecting bay with paneled and bracketed cast-iron columns, stone lintels, and an elaborate terra-cotta crown over the 7th floor, which has five Cornithian columns and four large carved heads. The 8th & 9th floors have arched windows with ornate brick and terra-cotta surround and crown moldings. There is a dormer with copper gable at the attic story. A tall chimney on the building's north side was removed sometime in the mid-1900s. The building was converted from manufacturing to residential around 1980. The ground floor is occupied by STA Travel.
