 apartment building  Add category

5-story cooperative-apartment building originally erected around 1839 as a house. It was probably raised to five stories around 1870, when West Broadway was widened. By 1873, the building had been converted to a factory. A further alteration to the facade took place in 1934, when the fifth floor and parapet were rebuilt after a serious fire. The building is clad in white-painted brick above a storefront, with three bays of windows on each floor, and has a stepped-up parapet at the roof. A white metal fire escape runs down the left two-thirds of the facade. It was converted to residential around 2000. The ground floor is occupied by LensCrafters Optique.
