Established in 1957 as an "I" or Intermediate site in the BAR Sector of the DEW Line, the BAR-B or Stokes Point station served as a backup and communications relay site between the BAR-1/Komakuk Beach and BAR-2/Shingle Point DEW sites until technological advancements rendered it obsolete in 1963.

Shutdown and largely abandoned thereafter, the site remained idle until the late 1980's, when the majority of remaining DEW Line infrastructure was removed and construction began on the present-day BAR-B short range radar site. Going operational in July of 1991, the modern BAR-B site is a fully autonomous radar site in the North Warning System controlled through the BAR-Main site at Barter Island to the West.
