military, early warning radar
Established in 1957 as an "I" or Intermediate site on the DEW Line, the CAM-C or Matheson Point site operated as a backup radar and communications relay post between the CAM-3 and CAM-2 sites in the CAM Sector of the DEW Line. Staffed year-round by five personnel, the site remained operational until radar and communication system improvements rendered it obsolete in 1963.
Mothballed thereafter and never returning to active service, the site has remained largely abandoned and unmaintained. The site is presently targeted for environmental remediation.
