 apartment building, 1940_construction

6-story residential building completed in 1940. Designed by Goldhammer & Stillman, it is clad in variegated red brick. Along the avenue the ground floor is lined with storefronts, and both the main west and north facades have light wells above the ground floor. The main entrance is at the center of the north facade on 22nd Street, at the base of the north light well. It has glass double-doors and a transom recessed into a limestone surround. Leading back into the recessed section of the surround are curved, fluted elements that frame the doorway; a metal railing tops the entry surround.

Two either side are matching wings, with a double-window bay, and then five single-windows. At the outer bays there is brown brick banding at the tops and bottoms of the windows on each floor. These outer bays end slightly lower than the rest of the facade, and are topped by metal railings at the roof line. The four middle bays at each wing, which have metal fire escapes cover the middle two bays, are capped by a higher brick parapet with a trio of grey brick "plus-signs" and four grey-brick vertical bands that extend up and break the roof line.

The east facade on the avenue is likewise split into two wings above the ground floor. The southern wing has four single-windows in the middle and double-windows at both end bays, while the north wing has (from south to north) a double-window bay with uneven pane widths, a regular double-window, a bay of small bathroom windows, a single-window, and another double-window. The roof lines match those on the north facade. The south wing has a fire escape over the middle two bays, while the north wing has a fire escape over its south bay. There sis also a fire escape at the rear of the east light well, which has two double-windows. The side walls have two single-windows and then a slightly-projecting section with paired windows. The north light well's rear wall has a large, 4-over-5 pane window flanked by a single-window that projects forward on either side. Its side walls have two bays of single-windows.

The building contains 77 apartment units. The ground floor along the avenue is occupied by The Copper Still bar, Smoke Shop, and Fancie Nail & Beauty Spa.
