 apartment building  Add category

5-story residential building originally completed in the mid-1800s as two separate structures. The smaller 3-story section at the south end was later joined and the facade renovated. It is now clad in grey-painted smooth-stucco scored to resemble stone blocks. The ground floor retains its original fluted and paneled brown cast-iron pilasters framing glass-and-metal storefronts. The main entrance is south of center, with a metal-framed glass door and sidelights in a white stone surround.

The upper floors of the 5-story section have nine bays of single-windows with flat, white stone sills and lintels. A pair of grey-brown metal fire escapes with curved corners on the landings runs down the facade. The 3-story section at the south end has another three bays of single-windows and a smaller fire escape. Both roof lines are marked by metal copings. The ground floor is occupied by Chelsea Hardware, Kame restaurant, New York City Bagel Coffee House, and Sushi Blossoms.
