office building, high-rise, 1924_construction, Neo-Renaissance (architecture)
200-foot, 16-story Noe-Renaissance office building completed in 1924. Designed by John H. Knubel, it is L-shaped, wrapping around three smaller buildings at the northeast corner of the block. Both main facades are clad in buff-colored brick above 3-story, white-painted limestone bases that are organized into three bays by paneled piers with grey-brown granite bases at the ground floor.
The main entrance is in the eastern wing on the avenue, in the south bay. It has black metal-framed glass double-doors below a high transom. The wider middle bay, and the north bay, have storefronts with glass-and-metal infill, with the door in the north bay. The 2nd & 3rd floors have triple-windows in the middle bay and double-windows in the end bays, with black iron mullions.
The bays at the north wing on 30th Street are equal sized. There is a storefront in the east bay, and service entrances in the other two, with metal vents above them. The 2nd & 3rd floors have triple-windows in the middle bay, and paired double-windows in the end bays, although the east half of the east bay has its windows replaced by metal vents.
The upper floors of the east wing have three bays of paired windows, slightly recessed into the facade, with simple stone sills. The top three floors are clad in stone, with a stone cornice across the top of the 14th floor, where geometric capitals adorn the piers. The facade ends in a simple roof line.
The upper floors of the north wing have two bays of three windows each, but is otherwise similar to the east wing. The side elevations facing the inner side of the L are also brick, with some red brick at the front edge of both up to the top three floors. The north-facing facade has four bays of paired windows and a single-window end bay at the east end, while the east-facing facade has two bays of three windows each, with a single-window near the north end; there is an extra window at the top floor. A small billboard is mounted at the east end of the north-facing elevation, at the 11th-13th floors, and extending out a bit past the building line. A larger billboard is angled between the two wings over the middle floors.
The ground floor is occupied by Mustang Harry's sports bar on the avenue, and by Rafaello Furs on 30th Street.
