apartment building, American Craftsman (architecture)
6-story Tudor/Craftsman-style residential building completed in 1927 for the Rumson Realty Corp. Designed by Charles Kreymborg & Son as an apartment building, it has an interesting design, with a facade of dark reddish-brown brick and stone ornament. Stone quoins surround the arched entryway, growing larger near the bottom. Above the door is a sharply-peaked shingled roof. The windows have stone sills and brick framing on the ground floor, and brick sills and lintels on the upper floors. The 2nd-story windows have areas of removed brick filled with stone between each window. On floors 3-6, the center of the facade is paneled in stone in a grid, with diagonal cross bars and star shapes in four of the panels. This culminates in a sharply-peaked triangular pediment, breaking the roof cornice on either side. The two outer bays of windows have iron fire escapes running down the facade. At the extreme edges of the facade, a plain stone pier framed by brick quoins rises up to above the cornice, ending in a pair of high, crenelated parapets.
