142-foot, 16-story mid-century-modern cooperative-apartment building completed in 1963. Designed by Philip Birnbaum & Associates, it consists of two sections of unequal height; the eastern section, fronting West 22nd Street, is 12 stories tall, while the western section reaches the full height of 16 floors. The building is clad entirely in white brick, with mostly double and triple casement windows, but also a few singles - with discreet air conditioning vent slits beneath each window unit. Part of the facade on each side is slightly set back above the ground floor. The building has a handsome entrance on the side street with a white marble surround, and an elegant but simple marquee. An underground parking garage is accessed from a ramp at the far east side of the building, which houses 217 residential units. Along 9th Avenue, the ground floor is occupied by a Rite Aid pharmacy.
