Art Deco (architecture), apartment building, 1940_construction

6-story Art-Deco residential building completed in 1940. Designed by Horace Ginsbern, it contains 113 apartment units. The building has three main wings, with deeply recessed light courts joined by narrow links. The facade is clad in reddish-brown brick, with white stone stripes around the entrance. The ground floor on the 7th Avenue side is lined with storefronts and capped by a grooved concrete band. Here the upper floors have windows with thin connected stone sills and lintels, and protruding corbelled brickwork in between each one. An iron fire escape runs down the central recessed section.

On the longer 15th Street side, the windows are grouped in a similar fashion, with connecting sills and lintels, and protruding corbelled brickwork in between. All of the corners have windows wrapping around, which are slightly recessed. The roof line is a simple brick parapet with stone coping. The ground floor on the Avenue side is occupied by Sabon beauty products, L&M Delicatessen & Grocery, Lucky Wang boutique, The Lite Choice frozen yogurt, Chelsea Wine Country, and Legend Bar & Restaurant.
