Part of the original row of 12 Greek-revival rowhouses built for the Estate of John Remsen in 1842. These houses are all three stories tall, three bays wide, and clad in red brick above brownstone basements. They have fine dentiled roof cornices, windows with lintels capped by delicate moldings, and ironwork at the stoops and areaways.

No. 134 is particularly charming with its exterior white blinds, added at a later date. From 1847 to I860 it was the home of Henry Jarvis Raymond, first editor of The New York Times.

Nos. 132, 136 and 138 have been remodeled to provide basement entrances and Nos. 132 and 136 have had their attics raised, so as to introduce higher windows. At No. 138 were the offices of The Liberator, the magazine that Max Eastman edited after the government shut down The Masses during World War I. Much later, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke lived here.

A large studio window takes the place of the two original windows of the first floor at No. 140. Its basement level is occupied by Sotto 13 restaurant.
