 apartment building, 1940_construction

7-story residential building completed in 1940. Designed by Stephen L. Heidrich, it has an irregular plan, with two light courts facing Sixth Avenue and one facing Downing Street. The building is clad in brown brick, with a white stone ground floor. The northeast corner facing the intersection is rounded. Along Sixth Avenue, there are 4-lined brick columns running up to the 5th floor, expressing the piers between the casement windows. Between the windows of the top floor are squared spiral stone ornaments, and a continuous stone lintel running above the windows. The roof line is marked by a simple brick parapet. A number of iron fire escape run down various parts of the facade. El Toro Blanco restaurant, an Emigrant Savings Bank branch, and La Villette restaurant are located on the ground floor.
