apartment building, Queen Anne style (architecture), 1886_construction
Five adjoining 5-story Queen Anne-style residential buildings, all designed by William B. Tuthill as tenements, and completed in 1886. All share a common basic design, with four bays of windows across, except for No. 231, which is half as wide with two bays of windows. Each building is also painted different colors, with a checkerboard of rough stone across the top of the 2nd floor. The windows have full stone enframements, and each facade has a metal fire escape, as well as a corbelled roof cornice with two rows of dentils.
The ground floor of No. 225 is occupied by V Bar and Cafe, No. 227 by City Underground novelty shop and Sacred Chow cafe, No. 229 by a shoe repair/cleaners and G Salon, and No. 231 by Soho Sushi.
