apartment building, 1966_construction, housing cooperative
135-foot, 17-story modernist cooperative-apartment building completed in 1966. It was developed by Harry Nessler, who acquired the land which then contained a truck depot, a couple of residences, a vacant lot, and a seven story tenement. Charlton House is clad in red brick, with setbacks above the 12th floor. It has horizontally-oriented casement windows. Apartments range in size from studios and 3-bedrooms. The top floor contains the building’s penthouses, of which some are duplexes. Its 176 apartments were converted to a cooperative in 1981. The ground floor is occupied by Village City Real Estate, Ku's Nails & Spa, Drago Shoe Repair, and Charlton Cleaners.
