7-story residential building completed in 1882 as a factory. Designed by Jobst Hoffman for William C. Browning for his company, Browning, King & Co., clothing manufacturers. During the widening of Elm Street in 1897-98, the building was reduced in width and the west facade was rebuilt in a simplified version of 31 the original. The firm of Brite & Bacon was the architects for the alterations. It is clad in red brick, with segmental-arched windows on the upper floors, grouped into pairs and triples. The top floor has round-arched windows, and there is a corbelled brick parapet facing Broome Street.

In 1901, Browning sold the building to the American Express Company, which used it as a delivery warehouse until it was sold in 1919. Afterwards, the building was occupied by a variety of commercial interests. The upper floors are now condominiums; the ground floor is occupied by Central Perk coffee shop, Despana wine and cafe, Brinkley's Pub, and Southside lounge.
