St. Georges Bridge

Old Steel truss bridge built in 1942 by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to replace an vertical lift bridge that was damaged by a ship in 1939. This bridge has seen many years of repairs, most notably in 1992 and 1998-2001. It was replaced by the Route 1 bridge in December 1995.

There have been years of talk regarding the fate of this bridge from the Army Corps of Engineers. Currently, it serves local traffic only and has a 15 ton gross vehicle weight limit (signs visible stating this placed mid-year 2008).

Span: 4,209 feet from south abutment to north abutment
