"Shoremonde" Cottage (Centre Island, New York)

The current cottage was rebuilt by Ormond Smith circa 1913 as part of his estate "Shoremonde" on portions of a 17th century foundation which once supported the John Pratt / Joseph Ludlam family farmhouse. Note portions of the original iron and brick perimeter fence that originally surrounded the Shoremonde estate.

It was from near this promontory that the young William Ludlam in July of 1781 witnessed the attack on Fort Franklin by three French frigates and five armed brigs.
