"Eastfair" (Lloyd Harbor, New York)

Estate residence designed c. 1930 by Forster & Galinore in the French Renaissance style on originally 43 acres of land for Sherman Mills Fairchild {industrialist}. In addition to being one of the largest heirs to the IBM fortune, Fairchild was an inventor and entrepreneur; founding over 70 companies, including Fairchild Aircraft, Fairchild Industries, Fairchild Aviation Corporation, Fairchild Camera and Instrument, and Fairchild Semi-Conductor. The estate home itself was constructed by E.W. Howell & Co. of Babylon.

Prior to building "Eastfair", Fairchild had purchased "Thatch Cottage" on Centre Island. Fairchild also had a townhouse in New York City at 17 East 65th Street which was designed c. 1941 by William Hamby with George Nelson.
