"Shoremonde" Dairy Outbuilding (Centre Island, New York)

Part of the Ormond Smith estate, "Shoremonde". Designed by Hoppin & Koen and constructed circa 1913.

The dairy was a small Georgian style complex noted for it's charm and distinctive cupola. It was long considered a pleasant landmark at the entrance to Centre Island. This building along with the garages and cottage across the road were until 2010 the major surviving structures from this estate.

The main section of the dairy was demolished in 2010 and a new building constructed in its place retaining the two flanking wings. The cupola from the dairy was salvaged and placed on the roof of an adjacent shed.
