military, early warning radar
Activated in September 1990 as a short-range radar station in the BAR Sector of the North Warning System, the BAR-3 site was co-located with its still-operational DEW Line predecessor until its shutdown in September 1993 as the DEW Line was inactivated.
Operational as a fully autonomous station thereafter, the current BAR-3 site became the sole facility onsite following the completion of a remediation project that saw all DEW Line-era infrastructure razed and removed. The site and its AN/FPS-124 radar systems are controlled through the PIN-Main site at Cape Parry to the East.
