(대성구역/大城區域)
This area was established as a separate district in January 1958. The city was initially divided into four (4) guyok which consisted of northern, eastern, central and western districts. It was split further in July 1948 when the central district of Pyongyang was divided to form a southern district. This was the first district established in Pyongyang, due to the location of Mount Taesong and its natural and historic environs. This district is the location of the Mount Taesong parks which includes the Central Zoo, the Anhak Palace, the Observatory and the Kimjongilia and Kimilsungia houses. The district was the location of Kumsusan Palace, which was President Kim Il Sung's head of state palace and is currently President Kim's burial site. Kim Il Sung University is located here, near Kumsusan.
