district, draw only border, third-level administrative division, town district

Once the seat of the influencial Chinese Lelang commandery, tonday this is one of Pyongyang's most modern and most photographed residential districts. The construction of the apartment buildings finished in 1989, built to house an influx of South Koreans because of a Re-unification, that has obviously not occurred. This area was initially established as the Rakrang District in September 1959, when P'yŏngyang was divided into eleven (11) urban districts. It is very open to foreign visitors and residents and the area is used as a showcase neighborhood of P'yŏngyang as there are many restaurants, movie theaters and officially sanctioned churches. The district is also famous for the thousands of ancient Han and Koguryo tombs which litter the area, many of which were excavated or looted by the Japanese during their occupation of Korea.
