"Dupkata" Reserve

The Doupkata Biosphere Reserve is situated in the Rhodope Mountains in the Pazardzhik Region in south Bulgaria and covers an area of 1,210.8 hectares between 600 and 1,350 meters above sea level. It was established in 1951 to protect the beautiful, almost virgin landscape and forests and was declared a biosphere reserve in 1977 and withdrawn in 2017.
"Dupkata" ("The Hall") Reserve was designated as a strict reserve in 1951 with an area of 65,2 ha with Government decree No.14827 from 29.06.1951.
