Vitosha is the first park in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula. It was declared a national park on 27 October 1934. Nowadays, its territory is 27,079.11 hectares. Two reservations are situated on its territory (biosphere reservation “Bistrishko Branishte” (Bistritsa Forest Reserve) and “Torfeno Branishte” (Turf Forest), as well as one natural landmark (the Duhlata Cave).
Vitosha is a mountain situated southward of City of Sofia. It is one of the symbols of the Bulgarian capital. It is the oldest nature park at the Balkans. Vitosha is also the favorite ski resort for inhabitants of the capital.
"Vitosha" is a nature park with Government decree № 15422 from 27.10.1934.
Aims of the declaration: To be announced for strictly protective perimeter and natural park with the reserves in it, the forests and the pastures in Vitosha Mountain.
