Daulis

Greece / Voiotia / Daulia /
 archaeological site, ancient ruins

Ancient Daulis was located on the hill south of the modern village of Davleia. The site is partly overgrown but parts of its fortified circuit can still be traced. The ancient city was destroyed by Xerxes in 480 BC and by Philip II of Macedon in 346 BC, but was once more flourishing by Roman times. Ancient legend associated it with a Thracian king and with the myth of Prokne and Philomela.
