apartment building, 1830s construction, Second Empire (architecture)

4-story French Second-Empire residential building completed in 1834 as a 3-story rowhouse. It was originally designed in a Greek-revival style, but an early 20th-century renovation added a fourth story with a slate mansard roof, as well as segmental-arched windows with corniced lintels and sills with supporting feet.

The three dormers have gable roofs over segmental-arched windows. The doorway is flanked by paneled pilasters which support an unusually elaborate, curved cornice suggesting a diadem. The facade is clad in pale red brick above a brownstone basement and stoop with iron railings.
