3.5-story Federal-style residential building originally completed around 1830 as a house. A 2-story brick rear addition was later constructed. By 1880, the building had become a boardinghouse, operated by a French immigrant and his wife, housing eleven Swiss boarders in addition to the family. In the same decade, alterations were made to convert all or part of the building into stores, and by 1890 it was occupied by several businesses. A few years later, it was a workshop and tenement.

The building has a wide entrance on the left, atop a granite stoop with iron railings, and a tripartite show window on the right with a wood cornice. The entrance is round-arched, with a prominent keystone. The upper floors are three bays wide, clad in red brick. Above a simple roof cornice, two dormers have triangular pediments. A wrought-iron fire escape runs down the facade.

From the 1920s to the late '50s, only commercial tenants occupied 26 Bond. In the 1960s, residential tenants were once again attracted, and the building was converted back to multiple-family apartments. The basement is occupied by The Smile restaurant.
