apartment building, Second Empire (architecture), 1870_construction

5-story Second Empire-style residential building completed in 1870. Designed by Youngs & Outcault as a store-and-loft building, it has a reddish-brown cast-iron facade (painted black on the ground floor, which also has glass-block infill). The round-cornered windows are separated by simple columns; those on the ground floor are fluted on the bottom third. There are cornices between each floor, and a larger, black roof cornice. A black iron fire escape covers most of the facade.
