At one time, Regina was the capital of the Northwest Territories. At that time, the NWT encompassed all of western Canada from the U.S border to the Arctic, and from the Ontario-Manitoba border to the Pacific. The last capital was in Battleford - in 2006 that building was destroyed by fire.
Only one building in Regina remains today. It survived a fire and has been restored twice. The outlines of two former buildings can be seen on the grass. A one-foot stone wall was built in the outline of the buildings.
