This subdivision began its life as the village of Sutherland in 1909, becoming a town by 1912. In 1956, the fast-growing city of Saskatoon annexed Sutherland. The former town's main street, Central Avenue, remains an important commercial district. Many of the streets are named after pioneers and early settlers associated with the town of Sutherland.
