Mezek Fortress "Neutzikon"

The medieval fortress of Neutzikon is located just southwest of Mezek in Southern Bulgaria. The visible fortress, which is relatively well-preserved (and partly restored), was built in the 11th and 12th centuries, during the Komnenian period. Together with a domed tomb east of Mezek the fortress is now a national monument. In 2009 a second fortress was discovered in the vicinity.
