HMCS Hunter (Windsor, Ontario)

Canada / Ontario / Windsor / Windsor, Ontario / Ouellette Avenue, 960

Owned by the Department of National Defense, the building is home to the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. Originally located in part of the old Toledo Scale buildings on Howard Street in 1940, the Reserve moved to this site in 1944. Operations include recruiting and training for the Windsor Sea Cadets. There is a rifle range in the basement.

The two storey 210 ft. x 140 ft. 90,000 sq. ft. structure was built in 1929. It was designed by R.J. Davies, the President of The Toronto Building Co. and was known as the Martin Marketorium. The Marketorium concept was based on a large open market space surrounded by a number of retail shops. Opened at the outset of the Depression, the Marketorium failed and part of the building was occupied by a badminton club for some time.
