In 1914 Detroit based Swedish Crucible Steel built a factory at this location to produce steel castings for the automotive industry. The name of the company was later changed to Olsonite after the company founder, Nels Olsen. Olsonite later produced plastic toilet seats under the names of Canadian Battery Container and Canadian Battery and Bonalite, but reverted to the Olsonite name during the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1972 Olsonite relocated to Marentette Drive and the building was occupied by Daal Specialties for a short while. In 1975 G&K Workware, a supplier of uniforms (now GK Services) occupied and operated from the plant until 2002 when it relocated to Twin Oaks Drive. Since that time space has been rented to a number of tenants.

In May 2008, the historic original southern part of the building was destroyed by fire. The newer northern part of the complex was saved and is occupied by Aaron's Mini Storage.
