The daughter of Jay Phipps resided in the home that was original to the property when Phipps bought it. It was a quaker farm built c. 1868 for John D. Hicks, Jr., and converted to her residence later on. It was gifted to M. Helen Phipps in 1929 for her wedding.
Peggie Phipps--who grew up in Westbury House next door--was responsible for converting Old Westbury Gardens from a private residence into a botanical garden. After she passed away a couple of years ago, plans were put in place to incorporate her home into the rest of the estate's property.
