Sarrin

Sarrin (also spelled Serrin or Sareen, Kurdish: Sirrîn, Zêrîn) is a town in Kobanê Canton, Rojava. The town had a population of 6,140 in the 2004 census. The city has a majority Arab population. Center of the Sarrin subdistrict of Kobani district of Aleppo Governorate.

In 2013, the Syrian Arab Army retreated from huge parts of northern Syria, and Sarrin was taken by the FSA.
In January 2014, the Islamic State seized huge swathes of land in Syria, and forced the FSA to retreat, taking Sarrin.
In March 2015, Kurds in the People's Protection Units (YPG), alongside Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels, launched an attack to take control of the strategic town.
In 20/07/2015, after months of battles, Sarrin was liberated by YPG, together with the remaining terrorist pockets around M4 Highway.
In 31/07/2015, a group of terrorists managed to infiltrate Sarrin, coming from across the river. The terrorists captured a school building, trying to massacre the children of Sarrin, but YPG isolated the group, and killed all of them. Some 16 YPG fighters were martyred in the surprise attack.
