Aleppo / Ḥalab (Arabic) ܚܠܒ Aramaic is the biggest city in Syria , capital of the Aleppo Governorate. The Governerate has a population of around 4,393,000. Aleppo is one of the oldest inhabited cities in history. It knew human settlement since the eleventh millennium B.C. through the residential houses which were discovered in Al-Qaramel Hill. The city is currently being fought over by the Assad government and rebel forces in the Syrian Civil War.
