The word itself means little hill. Sfira was inhabitated since thousands of Years. In Le Louvre, there is a stone known as the stone of Sfira dating 2000 B.C. Under Roman rule, Sfira was a huge agricultural area where underground canalizations - they are still visible to north and east of the Sfira - were used to irriguate in a very complex system all the valley and the surrounding plains.
