The Little Fortress

Czech Republic / Ustecky / Terezin /
 fortification, internment

Former SS prison during the period when Theresienstadt was a concentration camp. Had been used as a prison for some time, Gavrilo Princip was kept here after he shot the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and started WWI.

The Little Fortress is today a museum, largely created by the Communist government, though modernized. Because the Communist exhibits focused on political prisoners, the Ghetto Museum in the town of Terezin was opened in 1991 as a remedy to the lack of mention of Theresienstadt's primary function as a Jewish ghetto and transit camp for Auschwitz.
