Although owned by Duke Energy since its takeover of Cinergy in May 2006, The Gibson Generating Station is still referred to as "PSI" by locals in both Illinois and Indiana, referring to Public Service Indiana who originally built the plant. The Gibson Station Plant Complex's main feature is its 3,000 acre cooling lake which was once open to fishing until March 2007, when concerns of high levels of Sellinium were found in the fish of the lake, prompting Duke Energy to close the lake. Other features include the Crane Ridge Wildlife Refuge, located to the south of the lake, where a nesting grounds for Least Terns are located as well as at the Center Dike of the lake. Bald Eagles, many types of Hawks and Perigren Falcons are also in the skies of the area as well as abundance of deer on the ground. A WARNING: GUNS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE PROPERTY.
