Also known as Kingston Steam Plant, this plant is a 1.7 GigaWatt coal-fired power plant owned and operated by Tennessee Valley Authority on the shoreline of Watts Bar Lake. Plant was completed in 1955 and it was the largest in the world at the time. In 1976, the original smokestacks were taken out of service and were replaced by two 305-meter tall chimneys (one for units 1-5, the other for units 6-9).

  • This is where a big coal spill occurred in 2008 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingston_Fossil_Plant_coal_fly_ash_slurry_spill).
  • It wasn't a COAL spill. It was flyash. Nasty stuff. By product of burning coal.
